这首诗的原作者已不可考，按民间流传的说法,这是30年代美国的一位女子Mary Frye为她好友过世的母亲所写。作者并不是有名的诗人，诗本身也没有名字，但也许是内容太过感人，竟然广为流传，常被在葬礼或追思会上朗诵。后人以诗文第一句“Do not stand at my grave and weep”来命名此诗。在911的追悼仪式上，一位小女孩朗诵了这首诗，以表达她对在911事件中丧生的父亲的追思，由此，也让这首诗感染了更多人。
